Out of Hand: A process-based workshop
Coming this summer

What will we be doing?

Out of Hand is a workshop on making and letting go.

You will join us for a 90-minute workshop that uses blind contour drawing and watercolor as tools for noticing. You’ll learn how watercolor works, how water moves pigment, how to work with the medium instead of against it, and then use those tools to make something unplanned, imperfect, and entirely you. There will be silent writing and reflection, and guided group conversation. No pressure! Participate at your own capacity.

Blind contour drawing and watercolor are not random. They are the specific tools in this workshop because both mediums require us to release attachment to control, remove the pressure of perfection, and embrace freedom.

Art isn’t just a skill. It’s one of the oldest tools we have for understanding ourselves.

All materials included.

What is a process-based workshop?

Process-based workshops center on the experience of making as a tool for reflection and connection, rather than the production of a finished artwork.

Using accessible materials and guided conversation, participants are invited to explore memory, feeling, attention, and personal meaning. The emphasis is not on artistic skill or a finished product, but on what emerges through the process of making.

How do I know if it’s right for me?

Part of my purpose in this workshop is to make art an accessible tool for everyone. This workshop is designed for adults of all ages. No experience with art is required.

No experience with art is required. This is about learning how to make tools accessible.

Each workshop is priced individually. If cost is a barrier, please reach out. I’m happy to work with your budget when possible.

Based in NYC
